Abstract
In the present note Isaacson.s assertion is refuted by the derivation of a second-order solution for standing waves external to a circular cylinder, satisfying all necessary mathematical conditions. Slight modifications to the first-order profile and fluid velocities are given by this solution, similar to those due to second-order terms in other standing wave problems. However, the principal result in this note is the formal procedure for the second-order term in a Stokers expansion in the presence of a circular cylinder.
