Research and Water Resources Planning

Research related to water resources planning has emerged as one of the most important areas in water resources research. Emphasis is on research needs as related to planning centers on aspects of plan formulation and evaluation. Other research areas of interest to planning involve ecologic-hydrologic relationships and studies of environment and man. The horizon of water resources research is already a broad one and may be expected to expand as various disciplines gain perspective on their role in the research. Although research dealing with the technique and methodology is of immediate concern, research organized to better define the interrelated hydrologic and ecologic effects of water and developments as well as other water research should yield information of increasing value to water planners. Much of the research related to water planning can be pursued effectively in a multidisciplinary framework that should include significant participation by engineers.
