Wave Hindcasts Versus Recorded Waves
Publication: Journal of the Waterways and Harbors Division
Volume 92, Issue 4
Abstract
Water wave heights on Lake Michigan were calculated theoretically from meteorological data for periods of time totalling 21 days in the autumn of 1964 and the results compared with measured wave heights. Calculations were made using both the Neumann and Pierson-Moskowitz spectra. It was found that better agreement between calculated and observed wave heights is obtained when the Neumann spectrum is used. Except for periods of very low wave heights, it was found that agreement between calculated and observed wave heights is reasonably good.
