Abstract

A previous paper analyzed the performance of a marina with wave energy approximately uniform in the interior because of wave absorption well-distributed along the marina shore. Except at the lowest modes, protection could be estimated from a simple formula. Now the diffraction about the end of a one-arm or detached breakwater into the marina mouth is analyzed so as to yield some measures of performance of a breakwater-marina system together with the results previously reported. It was found that the wave height within the marina is proportional to the square root of the product of the wavelength and the width of the mouth, and inversely proportional to the square root of the product of the distance from mouth to breakwater tip and the wave absorption within the marina.
