Abstract
The lock, a well known hydraulic principle, is applied to graving docks and floating drydocks to produce an effective increase in draft of 4 ft to 5 ft for existing drydocks without actually deepening the dock structure. Additional auxiliary pumping equipment and minor structural alterations are the only requirements, in some cases.
