Abstract

Design of Pier 40 in New York City; method of analysis of stability of pier when subjected to lateral impact; pier is 800 ft sq with 140 ft finger projection and has Burtoning system for handling cargo; concrete structure is supported on steel bearing piles driven to rock and designed for total compressive force of 105 tons; provided with cathodic protection system for main deck, second deck, and roof deck.
