Solar Access and Sun Rights
Publication: Journal of the Urban Planning and Development Division
Volume 106, Issue 1
Abstract
Three reports resulting from two recent studies sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development are examined. These reports review the basic elements of solar energy for housing, the need for access to sunlight, elements of the solar access problem, and various methodS of solving this problem in existing built-up areas and in developing new residential communities. Criteria for evaluating solar access legislation, legal and planning issues involved in developing approaches to solar access, and some general guidelines for solar access measures are presented.
