Air Quality Management through Land-Use Measures
Publication: Journal of the Urban Planning and Development Division
Volume 102, Issue 1
Abstract
Land-use planning is examined as a new approach to better air quality. Measures that can aid air quality are primarily directed towards controlling and directing urban growth. Emission density regulations can directly supplement emission controls which alone may be insufficient to attain or maintain, or both, desired air quality as new sources enter an area already congested with individual sources. The topic of emission allocation, utilizing land-use control measures to restrict the air pollution potential of comprehensive land-use plans within an air quality maintenance area or some other defined region, is presented.
