Manual on Urban Planning Chapter X: The Future

Abstract

The final chapter of the Manual on Urban Planning summarizes the manual and indicates the great work ahead to plan for future growth. Charts show future needs for schools, churches, and airports, and give population estimates. A map of the United States shows probable areas of urbanization in 100 yr. The importance of the civil engineer in planning urban areas of the future is emphasized and his responsibilities in taking a place of leadership in urban planning are described. The future of cities and their social, economic, and physical expectations are treated. The impact of doubling our population in the next few decades is traced through current trends and endeavors, to focus on the need to start now with adequate plans.
