Abstract
An iterative approach by linearized equations is employed to tackle the problem of absolute orientation. As the space model is similar to the photographed object, the scale determination is performed by comparing a vector length in the model space with that in the object. The adjustment of the model in the coordinate system is accomplished by translation along the three perpendicular directions and by rotation around these axes. The analytical determination of absolute orientation makes use of three ground control points in the photographed object, a fourth point may be used for checking the orientation. The bare minimum requirement of the planimetric control can be limited to two, which would save time, labor, and cost of establishing one planimetric control. Thus the method is convenient and economical for the absolute orientation of space models in the process of analytical aerotriangulation.
