Abstract
As a method of obtaining an increase in accuracy for vertical control, the U.S. Lake Survey has adopted the use of the Zeiss Ni 2 self-leveling level equipped with plane-parallel plate micrometer for high precision leveling. The theory of the plane-parallel plate micrometer is described as well as equipment used, personnel requirements, data collection methods and allowable closures. Personnel adapted to the new methods rapidly and results and accuracy obtained are very favorable.
