Abstract
Among the fundamental problems encountered by engineers in providing the facilities needed and desired by society are problems concerning natural and man-made environments. By modern surveying and mapping, environmental factors influencing engineering decisions are readily ascertained and easily portrayed. From aerial photography by photographic interpretation, the fundamental details of natural and man-made features are determined and classified on a qualitative basis, and by photogrammetry are measured the position, configuration, and dimension of the features. For engineering use according to purpose and need, the classifications, configurations, and dimensions are represented by appropriate maps, which are named.
