Pore Pressure Equation for Anisotropic Clays

Publication: Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division
Volume 95, Issue 2

Abstract

Since the Terzaghi effective stress principle is well established as a convenient basis for expressing the stress-strain and strength response of soils, it is desirable to be able to relate in equation form the magnitude of the induced excess pore pressure, Δu, to a change in total stress, Δσ. This note proposes an equation which relates induced pore pressures to changes in total stresses for anisotropic, saturated, normally consolidated clays.
