Influence Charts for Two-Layer Elastic Foundations
Publication: Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division
Volume 95, Issue 2
Abstract
The influence charts.developed by Newmark (3)2 have been used quite extensively for computing stresses in soil foundations. The charts are based on Boussinesq’s theory by assuming that the soil is semi-infinite, homogeneous, isotropic, and elastic. However, it occurs frequently that, instead of being homogeneous, the foundati0n is composed of two different materials with a layer of better material underlain by an inferior material of infinite depth.
