Saturating Laboratory Samples by Back Pressure
Publication: Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division
Volume 99, Issue 1
Abstract
Previously published theoretical expressions relating the back pressure required to fully saturate a partially saturated soil sample with the initial degree of saturation are presented in this paper. An empirical expression is developed to determine the amount of time necessary to fully saturate various samples of Ottawa sand at varying initial degrees of saturation for laboratory testing for various types of soil along with alternate methods for saturating are also presented.
