Difficulties in Prediction of Horizontal Deformations of Foundations

Publication: Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division
Volume 98, Issue 8

Abstract

A number of recent comparisons between predicted and measured horizontal movements have shown considerable lack of agreement, despite the fact that in most cases, the agreement between measured and predicted settlements was quite good. These cases are described and possible reasons for the lack of agreement between measured and predicted horizontal movements are examined herein.
