Foundation Compliance Effects on Earthquake Response Spectra
Publication: Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division
Volume 96, Issue 4
Abstract
The vibratory behavior of a building during an earthquake may be affected by the properties of the ground upon which it is founded. One way this may happen could be caused by the seismic waves themselves which are significantly modified by the properties of the soils beneath the building. Such an effect has been observed in Mexico City which is underlain by several hundred feet of very soft soils, and similar effects have been reported in Japan on soft soils.
