Abstract
The subject of bearing capacity of foundations on sand has been studied extensively by many investigators. Although different approaches have been presented, a few points remain to be clarified, as for example the effect of footing roughness on the bearing capacity in the case of surface and shallow footings. In this study, the writers attacked the problem by finding the most critical slip surface that holds equally well for friction effect and surcharge.
