Abstract

The technique of consolidation grouting is invariably used to improve foundations by cementing together the bedding planes and by controlling seepage along these in sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. This technique requires orientation of the grout holes to be such that the maximum number of bedding joints are intersected by a specific length of the grout hole. A mathematical solution of the problem of orienting grout holes in the optimum direction with respect to formation strike and dip for grouting a rock formation is presented for use as an aid in the planning of such a grouting program. The inclination of the plane of the grout holes and the optimum inclination of the holes therein are represented graphically for different values of strike and dip. The analysis is further extended to cover some particular cases. The final equations evolved are listed at the end.
