Movements in Pipe Conduits Under Earth Dams
Publication: Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division
Volume 93, Issue 6
Abstract
Data from a field study of movements in pipe conduits under earth dams on compressible foundations are presented and analyzed. Based on the analysis, a tentative method for estimating the magnitude of the maximum transverse horizontal strain induced along the embankment foundation interface is proposed. The method is designed to avoid the necessity of estimating either the modulus of elasticity or the Poisson's ratio of the soil.
