Abstract

Some reasons for necking and waisting of bored piles in weathered inplace soils are given. Results of Van Weele's tests are compared with pullout tests to determine skin friction. Results of lateral load tests on vertical piles are described. Van der Veen's method of ultimate load determination was found satisfactory for simple compression tests, pullout tests, Van Weele's tests, and lateral load tests.
