Abstract
The state-of-the-art in special problems of slope stability is described. Both slope and foundation problems are considered. Some of the special problems concern cracking in embankments, collapsible soli, tectonic and large-area mass movements of toils, stabilization of slide areas, and basic assumptions in methods for analyzing slope stability. The finite element method of stress analysis may become a valuable tool for interpreting; stress and strain conditions in loaded soil masses. Also, improving correlation of analytic procedure with prototype behavior is discussed.
