Abstract
Settlement charts are developed, using elastic stress considerations and conventional settlement theory, to determine settlements at desired points, caused by square or rectangular footings of groups of footings of various size and shape. The variables considered include length and width of footings, spacing of various footings, variation of void ratio, magnitude of loading, distribution of loads, variation of coefficient of compressibility, and stratification. The use of normalized, nondimensional charts is presented in terms of illustrative examples.
