Effective Fetch for Roof Steps in Series

Publication: Journal of Structural Engineering
Volume 149, Issue 1

Abstract

Currently, snow drift loads at roof steps are a function of the ground snow load and the upwind fetch. Based upon the newer drift relationships in the ASCE 7-22 load standard, simple formulas are presented for the effective upwind fetch for the occurrence of two roof steps in series. Newer drift relationships appear in the ASCE 7-22 Commentary without any derivation. Herein these new relationships for the effective upwind fetch for roof steps in series are derived and illustrated with an example.
