Abstract
The factors affecting the disposal of sewage sludge into a sanitary landfill were investigated with regard to the absorptive capacity of solid waste. Laboratory scale tests were used to determine the absorptivities of individual solid waste components. Pilot scale tests were run using a composition of solid waste and sludge from a municipal system. The results indicated that the pilot test saturation absorptivities can be used to predict the moisture absorption capacity of a given composition of solid waste for full-scale sanitary landfill disposal.
