Abstract

A model for simulation of stream hydrology, water uses, and water quality is described. The model was developed to generate weekly (48 time intervals per yr) streamflow and water quality data based upon inputs of stream gage records, reservoir regulation, water uses, wastewater discharges, and other essential parametric data. All pertinent relationships are expressed in mathematical form and programming provides the linkage for continued simulation for as long as desired and for output of the resulting data. Input data from the Farmington River Basin, Connecticut, were used for testing the model. The application successfully generated streamflow and water quality data for this small but complex river system. The model has been used to generate water quality data for a study of the benefits of low flow augmentation for control of water quality.
