Abstract

Planning the selection of solid waste disposal facilities requires an assessment of many complex interactions among transportation systems, land use patterns, urban growth and development, and public health considerations. Much attention has been given to system analysis and mathematical modeling techniques for sorting out various available alternatives. This paper presents a mathematical model that will aid in selecting from among various disposal alternatives. The problem is formulated as a fixed charge problem that is solved by use of an adjacent extreme point algorithm.
