Valuation of Flow Augmentation Releases

Publication: Journal of the Sanitary Engineering Division
Volume 97, Issue 3

Abstract

A mathematical programming technique is used to derive an estimate of the value, measured in terms of wastewater treatment costs avoided, of flow augmentation releases in a river with multiple waste sources. Analyses are performed for a single source of augmented flow in the headwater reaches. The effect of the quality of the augmented flow on its economic value is quantified. A procedure for incorporating the dependence of the reaeration coefficients and travel time on the river discharge is also included. Illustrative results for a hypothetical region are included.
