Abstract
An apparatus was assembled and a method was developed for the in situ measurement of solids concentration gradients occurring in final clarifiers of an activated sludge process. Tests were conducted both in the laboratory and in the field to determine the correlation between the instrument readings and the actual measured solids concentrations. Methods used for plotting the measured solids deposition patterns are shown. It was concluded that both the apparatus and the method established for using the apparatus were satisfactory for rapidly determining the solids depositions in final clarifiers.
