Application of Radioactive Tracer Techniques

Publication: Journal of the Sanitary Engineering Division
Volume 92, Issue 1

Abstract

The primary advantage of radioactive tracers is the ability to detect them in small quantities. Consideration of the many factors in choosing the isotope and careful planning is the key to a successful tracer study with this type of material. Specific application of the methods were made to a study of a large receiving body of water. From this study, it is concluded that radioactive materials do have an application in stream improvements, but it is somewhat limited by the economic need to introduce the tracer in a single slug.
