Abstract
The first order chemical reaction for BOD is examined. A second order chemical reaction equation for BOD in the form yt = t/a + b t is presented and a solution outlined. These equations are applied to experimental data. The results show that a second order equation that can be solved directly by least squares analysis can be applied to BOD data without loss of precision. Raising the test temperature from 20○C to 35○C significantly increases the precision of calculating BOD constants.
