Abstract

The peculiar behavior of night soil (urine, feces, and personal cleaning materials) during bio-stabilization processes has been perplexing to professionals in modern treatment practice. The physico-chemical characteristics of aerobic digestion of night soil with starting total solids concentration of 3%, 6%, and 8% are examined herein. The parameters of stabilization measured in detail were volatile matter reduction and carbon dioxide production. Secondary characteristics of odor, color, settleability, and filterability were also studied.
