Abstract
The accelerated and uncontrolled growth of the urban fringe around American cities during the last three decades has created serious problems in providing essential community facilities and services. Finding a way to provide these services is a major challenge to many concerned professional groups as well as to the public. It is the broad purpose of this report to indicate the role which the engineering profession, and particularly those individual engineers and planners concerned with urban development should assume in planning for and providing one major service: sewage collection and disposal.
