Abstract
Methods for calculating the ultimate loads of fillet weld groups are explored, and results are compared with elastic limiting loads. The position of the instantaneous center of rotation of an example weld group is traced throughout a load history from zero through to failure. The significance of pure shear and pure moment loading conditions are examined, and an example calculation is described. The computational procedures necessary for the solution of a general in-plane, generally loaded weld group are described.
