In-Plane Buckling of Crane Jibs with Toplis Reeving
Publication: Journal of the Structural Division
Volume 104, Issue 5
Abstract
This paper describes a method for determining the degree of in-plane restraint imposed by the load ropes at the jib head of luffing cranes with Toplis reeving. Stability relationships have been developed for jibs with uniform, tapered, and parabolic chords and design formulas have been derived for determining the effective length factor in each case. Reference is also made to solutions for the out-of-plane case.
