Abstract
Tests on 15 beams with slender webs containing unstiffened holes are reported. The parameters affecting web stability in the region of web holes are covered in the light of the test results. Important parameters are shown to be the slenderness of the tee section on the compression side of the hole, the length of the hole, and, especially for circular holes, the moment-to-shear ratio. Comparison of test results is made with theoretical results based on a plastic analysis in which buckling is assumed not to occur.
