Abstract

A polynomial load is developed to describe the response of a shallow spherical shell to a concentrated load applied at apex under various boundary conditions. Curves of deflection, moments, and thrusts are presented for varying values of geometrical parameters. An analogous table gives coefficients for direct computation of pertinent design quantities. Characteristic lengths for which edge boundary conditions can be ignored are given. Behavior of finite and infinite shells are compared.
