Abstract
Considerable attention has been given in recent years to the dynamic performance of structural elements. The dependence of fatigue strength on stress range is well known. Test results on welded plate girders indicate a correlation between tensile fatigue strength and web boundary stress, which in turn is a function of several variables, such as frequency, nature of dynamic load, and girder proportions. This note presents an approximate analysis of the dynamics of a built-up girder, based on the realization.
