Rapid Reduction of Banded Stiffness Matrices

Abstract
A simple computer routine is presented that enables a banded stiffness matrix to be reduced to upper triangular form. It is almost as efficient as the more usual methods when the band is not uniformly stepped, and is often significantly more efficient when the band is uniformly stepped.
