Abstract
A practical method of calculating the frequencies of free lateral vibrations of plane curved bars is presented. The accuracy of the results was found to be high. At least half as many natural frequencies as the number of degrees of freedom were observed to be within 2% error. A general program for IBM 7040 is written and can solve for the natural frequencies of lateral vibrations of any plane bar with not more than two segments meeting at any division point. Numerical examples are shown to demonstrate the theory, and the results compared with the available solutions.
