Abstract
By means of digital computer simulation, the complete load-deformation history of a column may be obtained. Thus, about 1,000 simulated column tests have provided a basis to establish systematically the maximum strength and to study the behavior of both straight and initially crooked columns for various yield point steels and a typical aluminum alloy. The effects of residual stress, alone or in combination with initial crookedness, are systematically evaluated for steel columns.
