Abstract

The fabrication and testing of a ferro-cemento folded plate is described. Joints, transverse and longitudinal, were obtained by welding reinforcement bars at discrete points. Such a structure can carry its load at this stage of construction. Partial monolithicity is achieved by placing mortar at the joints. With the partial monolithicity, the structure can carry live loads in addition to its dead load. Deflections were not excessive. The major contribution to deflection was caused by flexure. The deflections of the test unit resulting from transverse slip and shear were found to be 2% and 3.5%, respectively. The test unit failed in shear along the fold line joints at the diaphragms.
