Abstract

An efficient digital computer method for the structural analysis of large, multistory building frames is presented. The structure may be subjected to both vertical and lateral loadings and may include an arbitrary system of shear walls. Axial and shear distortions, as well as flexural distortions of the members, may be considered. The method is based on the development of a tri-diagonal stiffness matrix of each frame in the building, its reduction by recursion relationships to the lateral frame stiffness, and finally the superstiffness of the complete building. Results obtained for an example structure are evaluated.
