Overload Factors Can Cause Ultra-Conservative Design

Abstract
Review of use of overload factors in establishing design stresses for reinforced and prestressed concrete structures and for steel transmission towers; it compares this with results of conventional design stress assumptions and finds overload factors create much higher safety factor than would normally be expected.
