Subsurface Drainage by Transient-Flow Theory

Publication: Journal of the Irrigation and Drainage Division
Volume 94, Issue 4

Abstract

Although subsurface drainage problems in arid irrigated areas do notgenerally develop for a number of years after the beginning of irrigation, they do arise as a direct result of irrigation. The cost of the deferred drainage facilities which will be required must be considered as a part of the overall cost of developing an irrigation project. Because of the need in project planning of comparing total project costs with over-all benefits of a proposed irrigation project, the Bureau of Reclamation must predict the ultimate drainage requirements and costs that can be expected to develop as a result of irrigation.
