Drip Irrigation Design on Nonuniform Slopes

Abstract

The pressure variation along a lateral line can be determined by a linear combination of energy drop by friction and energy gain (or loss) by either uniform or non-uniform slopes. Design charts were developed from computer simulation for five non-uniform slope patterns. In Pattern I situation where the non-uniform slope has a general shape similar to the energy gradient curve, the average slope can be used in the design. A single dimensionless design chart for non-uniform slope situations was developed; it can be used for all non-uniform situations and for both British and metric units. The application of Poly-plot was examined and further expansion of the concept of Poly-plot led to the development of the Isograph that can be used for both uniform and non-uniform slope situations. When a lateral line is relatively long it can be divided into several sections in which varying sizes can be designed for each section.
