Economic Pipe Sizing in Pumped Irrigation Systems

Abstract
In a pumped system the most economical size of pipe is that size for which the sum of the costs varying with a change in diameter is a minimum, i.e., the pumping cost per year required for overcoming the friction loss through a length of pipe plus the capital recovery cost per year of that length of pipe.
