Orange County Water District's Water Factory 21

Abstract
An advanced design fresh water factory is being constructed in Orange County, CA. The factory consists of wastewater reclamation plant and seawater desalting module to supply fresh-water to a 30 mgd (113,550 m³/day) seawater barrier-ground water basin replenishment system. The paper describes the advanced wastewater reclamation plant and seawater desalting plant being implemented by the Orange County Water District, and the utilization of the product water from the two plants in the ground-water injection program. The use of waste heat from the desalting plant in the reclamation process, and the resolution of adverse environmental impacts are analyzed, and the long-range implications of the freshwater factory in the management of the ground water basin are postulated.
