Drainage in Soils with Initial Gradient
Publication: Journal of the Irrigation and Drainage Division
Volume 98, Issue 2
Abstract
For the realistic analysis of drainage problems concerning clayey, loamy, and silty clay-loamy soils, the Darcy law will have to be modified to include the initial gradients. Analytical solutions for a few simple two-dimensional cases of ground water flow in initial gradient soils have been presented. The importance of the initial gradient in unconfined trench drainage problem, affecting the spacing of the trenches and discharge reduction, has been brought out. The corresponding confined flow situation is also analyzed.
