Ground Water Managment—A Progress Report
Publication: Journal of the Irrigation and Drainage Division
Volume 97, Issue 1
Abstract
The Irrigation and Drainage Division, ASCE, has created a Task Committee to update Manual of Engineering Practice No. 40, Ground Water Basin Management, to include new concepts, techniques, knowledge, and methodology. The updated manual will furnish a check list for the water resources planner of significant topics which he should consider in achieving his ground water management goals. The paper, a progress report of the Task Committee's activities, cites the need for definition of ground water problems and implementation of a management plan. The concept of formulating alternative management objectives is discussed, and elements of a management plan are identified. Development of the planning approach and organization to undertake the work program necessary to achieve the objectives is described. A detailed outline of the proposed revised Manual No. 40 is presented.
